In nowadays’ turbulent world, achieving “Profitable Growth” and creating Value for shareholders is becoming ever more challenging.
This seminar uses the specifically designed Value-Win Business simulation to blend theory and practice. It provides h witan intense, competitive and enjoyable action-learning environment, for participants to experience the challenges of Value Creation.

The Value-Win Simulation

The Value-Win business simulation is designed to provide a unique, hands-on learning experience. It offers participants the possibility to approach a broad range of executive decisions by recreating a turbulent competitive business setting, under the scrutiny of the financial markets. Companies in the Value-Win simulation are publicly traded enterprises whose clear objective is to Create Value. They face the challenge of Profitable Growth: how to grow, how to be profitable, and how to do so consistently.

The Value-Win teaching objectives

demonstrate a global view of the company and coherence between functional decisions,
how to grasp business performance,
the search for competitive advantage,
how benchmarking leads to improved performance,
the importance of strategic flexibility,
the importance of strategic flexibility,financing requirement of growth,
value creation and the drivers of the firm’s value.

The Value-Win Outline

Confronted with a competitive, aggressive business environment, with products and markets in different stages of maturity, participants will have to combine ‘strategic flair’, operational rigour and cost awareness. Participants will be asked to assess the value creation potential of their different activities, while using a holistic approach to the firm in order to ensure the general coherence of their business decisions. Throughout the exercise, they will trace the origin of their company’s results, learning to read and understand the most commonly used financial statements. No prior knowledge of accounting or finance is necessary to participate into the Value-Win simulation.

Though value creation is the company’s primary goal, the Value-Win simulation stresses:
optimal allocation of corporate assets,
risk management and strategic flexibility,
the necessity to select essential data and to gather business intelligence from them,
short term/long term trade-off,
delivering outstanding performance.

Program Faculty

Olivier Tabatoni is Professor of Finance at IAE Aix-en-Provence, France. He is adjunct Professor at HEC Paris, an Associate Fellow from the Saîd Business School, Oxford University, U.K and, France. He was Visiting Professor at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University and at the Haas Business School, University of California, Berkeley.

He holds a Doctorate in Analysis and Economic Calculus from the University of Aix-Marseille. He received his Master in Finance and his Ph.D. in Finance and Quantitative Analysis from New York University's Stern School of Management. He is a fellow from the Ford Foundation

He has also taught in leading universities and business schools from Europe to the Far East; he regularly teaches in Bangkok, Beijing, Hong-Kong, Hyderabad and Shanghai. He has won awards for excellence in the classroom on numerous occasions. He recently received the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Best Teacher Award.

His areas of interest include corporate and financial strategy, international finance. He is also an advisor in financial strategies. He regularly holds executive training sessions using Business game simulations which he has specifically developed for Executive training. They focus on Value Creation.
Professor Tabatoni has also been involved in designing and teaching in many executive programs for large international companies. Clients include Air France, Alcatel-Lucent, Atos-Origin, BASF, BP, Bouygues, Ericsson, Eurocopter, ING Bank, MAN AG, MBDA, Publicis, Schneider Electric, ST Microelectronics, SKF, TOTAL, ThyssenKrupp, Volvo Trucks among others.

His current research interests are with Profitable Growth, Real Options, Value Creation, Strategic Flexibility and Change management. More generally it focuses on the interactions between Strategy, Finance and Leadership.
