Module 9: Leadership and Change Management

1. MODULE OVERVIEW

This module examines the anatomy of leadership and reviews necessary concepts and tools to
analyze both personal and group behavior. This important subject of leadership will be reviewed,
utilizing a highly interactive approach to explore leadership. This will be achieved by behavioral theory,
practical application, and case study and personalized learning.

This session will review the subject or transformational leadership and change, and the role of the
leader, and importance in elevating employee performance to extraordinary levels. The adaptation
ability of a leader which highlights the importance of the adaptive capacity of potential leaders, and
the role of the leader is important for managing complex change – with special attention focused on
the importance of attitude in leadership.

The program will also review the various roles, responsibilities and demands on the leader,
alternative leadership styles, and the relationship between leadership styles and organizational
outcomes.

2. DESCRIPTION OF THE MODULE CONTENTS

This module on leadership and change focuses on the concepts that leadership is both current and
timeless and that excellence in leadership requires the ability to attract capable people, motivate
them to provide forth their best effort, and solve problems that arise. These are difficult tasks, which
helps explain why effective leadership is rare and why we respect those who excel.

The main topics covers in this module are:
    - What is leadership and the importance of leadership;
    - Types of leaders and consequences and outcomes;
    - Transformational leadership and change;
    - Leadership, strategy, growth and globalization;
    - Leadership modules and ethics;
    - Leadership, work teams and performance;
    - Leadership – 9 key areas of leadership.

With over 25 years of professional experience in private management consultancy for Fortune 500
and venture/growth firms. Strong track record in both strategy formulation and execution, corporate
and business development, asset management strategy, business architecture, organization development, design and managing complex change, turnaround management and value creation. He has considerable experience in working closely with family owned enterprises and private wealth management in Asia.

Brian also has international experience working in and on projects in North America, Europe and Asia. His experience includes gaining access to and structuring international joint ventures, licensing agreements, distribution arrangements and corporate partnerships. Industrial sectors of experience include energy/oil and gas, professional services, chemical manufacturing, telecommunications, banking and finance, consumer goods, education. consumer electronics, education, property development and construction. He has advised Exxon/Esso, Lafarge, Nortel, Mobil and other numerous organizations on Growth, Globalization, Strategy and Revenue Expansion Initiatives.
 
Brian is a graduate of Harvard Business School and John F. Kennedy, with a Masters in Management (MM) and a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA). He is also an Alumnus of Stanford Business School, The Wharton School, Berkeley, Dartmouth and INSEAD. In addition, Brian is a graduate of the Heinz School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University with a Masters Degree in Public Management (MPM). He teaches Strategy at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and also at Singapore Management University (SMU) in the Wealth Management Masters Program, and serves also as Senior Adviser on Strategy to several Military and Intelligence Organizations. In 2004, Brian was appointed a Senior Fellow of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and received a Doctorate (D.Univ.) from Middlesex University in England in 2004. Most recently he has completed an Advanced Degree at Oxford University and at HEC – Haute Etudes des Commerciales in Paris, France. Presently he is completing another Doctoral Degree.
