Module 1: Business Game

I. MODULE OVERVIEW

Today’s business world is ever more turbulent. It requires new types of behaviours, competitive strategies and measures of performance. The NegoSim Business Simulation provides a unique learning opportunity to address those challenges and experience the many paradoxes modern leaders have to live with.

With the NegoSim business simulation, participants will practice decision-making and develop their business skills. They will be have to manage a firm in a competitive and global environment in a value-creating framework.

The module objective are about:

2. Faculty

Alain Roux is an Adjunct Faculty member at HEC Paris and teaches in both the MBA and Executive Education programs. He is a professor and researcher in Economics at the "Faculté d'Economie et de Gestion" de l'Université de la Méditerranée (Aix-Marseille - France). He is also a member and senior researcher of the CEFI (Centre d'Economie et de Finances Internationales).
He holds undergraduate degrees in economics and in political science from the University of Aix-Marseille, and graduates degrees from the same university and from the University of Rhode Island (USA) where he also has been assistant professor in the 70's.

Alain’s teaching activities at the university presently include Industrial Organization, International Finance, and Spatial Economics. His research activities at the moment deal with the impact of Research and Development on macro economic and microeconomic performances. As such he is part of the European network in charge of the future report on Science and Technology.

He is co-director of the multimedia programme of his University; as such he uses numerous business games (Chadora, Poly-Game, Intopia…) in undergraduate and graduate sessions, to teach general management, cost control, financial statements, international finance… He also participated to the development of specific games or computer based learning systems, devoted to international negotiation (EuroSim), management in the tourism industry (Odyssey), strategy in a global world (Negosim), management in formerly socialist economies (LEA)…
He also is a consultant and/or trainer for numerous international firms in the field of economics, strategy, and transportation economics, as well as for government and local governments’ agencies and institutions.

 

Professor Olivier Tabatoni is an Adjunct Faculty member at HEC Paris and teaches in both the MBA and Executive Education programs. He is Professor of Finance at IAE Aix-en-Provence, University of Aix-Marseille.

Professor Tabatoni has been Visiting Professor at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University and at the Haas Business School, University of California-Berkeley where he taught finance and financial strategies in the MBA programs. He regularly teaches in various universities and business schools all over the world and has won awards for excellence in the classroom on numerous occasions. In 2005 and 2007 he received the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Best Teacher Award.

Professor Tabatoni has also been involved in designing and teaching in many executive programs in large international companies. He is a regular of the Sasin-Wharton-Kellogg Senior Executive management program.
He regularly holds executive training sessions using Business game simulations which he has developed specifically for Executive training. They focus on Value Creation, Profitable Growth and Strategic Alliances. The latest versions are internet-compatible allowing participants to experience virtual collaborative work with team-mates spread all over the world.

Previously he was the MBA Program Director at IAE Aix-en-Provence. From 1992 to 1996 he was Associate Dean of the IAE Aix-en-Provence.
Professor Tabatoni holds a Master a Doctorate in Analysis and Economic Calculus from the University of Aix-Marseille. He received his Ph.D. in Finance and Quantitative Analysis from New York University's Stern School of Management.

He is a fellow from the Ford Foundation, a European Foundation and a FNEGE scholar.
His current research interests are with Value Creation, Real Options, Profitable Growth, Strategic Flexibility and Change management. More generally it focuses on the interactions between Strategy, Finance and Leadership.

 

Professor Raymond GAMBINI is Professor of Information System at the University Aix-en-Provence, Université de la Méditérannée. His areas of interest include information system, business simulations and internet platforms.
Professor Gambini, a former engineer with Thomson C.S.F, has been teaching computer and information system at the University of Economics since 1968. He has also been teaching regularly at ENA (Ecole Nationale d’Administration)  and ESSEC. He was a Research Associate at Austin University, Texas, USA working on gravitational location models.

Professor Gambini initiated and was Director of the Computer Centre of the Aix-Marseille universities.Raymond also was Information System Director for the Ecole Nationale d'Exportation, Expert for the Foreign ministry in Malaysia and Expert for the Caisse Centrale de Coopération Economique.

He was deeply involved with many EU cooperation projects and has been more specifically in charge of the COMETT programme for the development of a simulation model of the European Market (EUROSIM, 1993) and the LEONARDO programme for macro-economic simulation (MACSIM, 1996).

Professor Gambini has spent the last 25 years developing business simulations models for graduate programmes and executive training. He has worked with numerous business schools and companies such Auchan, Alcatel, AGF, …
He organises every year student challenges where many hundred students participate simultaneously to one of the many business simulations he contributed to. He has developed a portfolio of such simulations targeting different industries and markets; they include Ariane, Chadora, Chasolo, Kallystee, Macsim, Mirage, Eurosim, Negosim, Medisim, Odyssey, Polygame, Simauchan, Value-Win  among others.

Raymond Gambini holds a Masters degree with Honors in Mathematics and Applied Physics,1959 and is a civil engineer from ENST (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications) 1961. A former scholar from Institut d'Etudes Politiques, Paris, 1961. He also has a Masters degree in Economics fro University of Aix-Marseille, 1966.
His current research interests are with Network Management and Internet Platform. His latest projects involve distance co-operation through Internet platform and simulations with a large number of participants spread all over the world.
