With a strong general management focus, the program covers themes including:

Marketing is the set of activities that aims at creating value for a set of targeted customers, giving them access to this value, and making them transfer value back (usually in the form of payment of the price) to the company. This course will enable you to analyze a business situation from a marketing perspective, develop a marketing strategy, and implement the marketing strategy with concrete actions.

The economic and productive output of any business entity or enterprise results from its use of resources (such as labor, materials, services, facilities, patents and equipment) in seeking to achieve its strategic purpose. These resources need to be acquired, financed and paid for. Many parties (such the management team of the firm itself, its capital providers or shareholders, current and potential, its customers and suppliers, the tax authorities, its workers’ unions, etc.) need to be informed about the amounts of resources available, how they were financed or acquired and how effectively and efficiently they are used to satisfy a market demand.

It is the responsibility of every chief executives to develop an understanding of the way a company’s strategic decisions and operating activities affect its financial performance and its ultimate value.

The “Operations Management” module of the HEC EMBA China Program aims at showing that any organization must be analyzed as a component of a Supply Chain in which the different actors (suppliers, manufacturers, retailers) as well as the different functions (marketing, production, finance) interact. Understanding and mastering the relationships between these different areas will improve the effectiveness (achieving the objectives) and the efficiency (achieving the results at least cost) of the system.

In this context, the objective of this course is to review the main concepts, methods and tools which are used in the strategy formulation and implementation process, identify the business situations in which they can be applied most effectively, as well as understand the limitations of the various approaches.

The objective of this module is thus to understand why and how firms enter into new industries or new geographies. It should help participants identify the various options for growth that are available to companies in different companies, and more importantly, to help them think about the advantages and disadvantages of each of these options for growth in order to be able to make the right trade-offs when making real decisions on these issues. Finally, the course will lead participants to think about and discuss the implementation issues associated with each of the considered growth strategies.

This module’s first objective is to position the strategic implementation in the strategic process (Vision of company and its shareholders, battlefield and competitors analysis, choice and definition of “possible strategy”, based on implementation potential and change management capabilities) and to describe such a strategic alignment process in details with a focus on the implementation aspect.The second objective is to describe some of the generic strategy implementations and what one can learn from them.Another objective is to understand how to use the existing levers.

Learning objectives are threefold:
(i)Increase the participants’ understanding of the impact of organizational designs on corporate performance;
(ii)Analyze the merits and weaknesses of different cost and revenue management systems, and particularly, analyze the long term impact of cost and revenue management decisions to achieve corporate objectives;
(iii)Expose participants to the strategic implications of the design of planning and control systems.

The objective of this last module of the EMBA program is to understand how people management and business management intrinsically are linked to each other with the demonstration through lectures, cases and exercises that the most successful organizations build their long term efficiency and effectiveness upon a people strategy that emphasizes the strategic role of Human Resources Management (HRM).
